Inspecting the façade of a busy city-centre building brings its own access challenges. The platform needs to reach the work area with minimal disruption at ground level, then give the inspection team a practical way to follow the building elevation once work begins.
That was the requirement for Nu-Cairn during a recent weekend of façade inspections. Scheduling the work outside the normal working week helped avoid disruption to businesses and people using the surrounding area, while the Oil&Steel Octoplus 17 gave the team the access needed to carry out the inspection.
Its 785mm wide tracked chassis allowed the platform to be driven and manoeuvred into the working area before the outriggers were deployed. This was particularly useful due to the limited space around the city-centre building.
Once set up, the Octoplus 17 became especially useful for this façade work, due to its double pantograph articulation. This allowed the basket to travel in a near-vertical path, helping the operator maintain a more consistent distance from the building rather than continually arcing towards or away from it.

For the Nu-Cairn inspection team looking closely at glazing, cladding, joints and other façade details, means the elevation can be followed more systematically. The platform was able to move between levels while keeping the operator close to the area being assessed, reducing the need for repeated repositioning at ground level.
With a 17m working height and 7.6m outreach, the Octoplus 17 also provided the reach needed to cover different parts of the building from the selected set-up position. Quick outrigger levelling helped make effective use of the limited weekend working window before the platform was tracked away again.
For Nu-Cairn, the Octoplus 17 delivered the access needed for the job: straightforward movement to the work area, enough reach for the elevation and basket movement particularly well suited to close façade inspection.
