Glass Innovation at G1: How AR Group Used Winlet for Glasgow’s Iconic Project

AR Group has just completed a fire-rated glass replacement project at G1 George Square in Glasgow – one of the city’s most prestigious office buildings.

The work involved replacing all 69 full-height glazing panels, delivered safely and efficiently with the help of a Winlet glazing robot working alongside a specialist rope access team.

Combining first class equipment and expertise

The scale and precision required for this project meant AR Group brought together a combination of specialist skills and equipment. The Winlet glazing robot worked alongside a professional rope access team, each approach chosen for specific parts of the façade.

The robot’s ability to position large, heavy panels with millimetre accuracy, while eliminating manual handling strain—proved invaluable for the repetitive, demanding work of replacing all 69 units on time and to specification.

This collaborative approach, safety-first mindset, and modern lifting technology allowed the team to deliver a safe, efficient process without disruption to the building’s occupants.

G1 George Square – Glasgow’s iconic landmark

G1 sits at the heart of Glasgow’s historic George Square, housed behind a Grade A listed Victorian sandstone façade. The building is a multi-award-winning regeneration project, named BCO Best Commercial Office in Scotland in 2011. Behind the beautiful heritage frontage lies a modern 130,000 sq ft office building with a striking steel and glass roof, one of Scotland’s largest, that dominates the Glasgow skyline. The location is prime: immediately visible from Glasgow Queen Street Station, with central station and underground access nearby, surrounded by the city’s cultural and commercial heart.

Working together professionally

AR Group thanked its partner AKP Scotland Ltd and Pyroguard, who worked alongside AR Group to ensure the project ran smoothly. The success of work like this depends on close teamwork, clear communication, and the right equipment for the job.
