Hird Sales can now supply the new Oil&Steel latest spider lift that takes working at height in the most challenging conditions to a whole new level.
The OctoPlus 30 is the tallest spider platform yet produced by Oil&Steel and offers clear industry-leading advantages in the 30m working height class.
Launch of the new spider lift has been welcomed by rental specialists, already delighted with the performance of the OctoPlus 17 (working height 17m) and OctoPlus 21 (working height 20.7m).
Availability of the Octoplus 30 will allow them to extend their offer to hire customers, with all the advantages and shared operational characteristics across the Oil&Steel range.
Hird Sales is the UK distributor for Oil&Steel platforms, which also include a high-performance range of self-drive truck mounts.
Best in class features
Carl Cooper, Sales and After-Sales Manager at Hird Sales, said: “Oil&Steel spider lifts combine great operational performance with a robust design and build that makes them extremely reliable.
“This gives them an edge over competitors that our customers appreciate, and the Octoplus 30 is no exception. In all aspects, including productivity and safety, it is a class apart.”
The Oil&Steel Octoplus 30 spider boom has a maximum working height of 29.6m and a maximum horizontal outreach of 16.3m.
This is combined with exceptional compactness, a strong feature across the Oil&Steel spider lift range. The platform is just 900mm wide and 1980mm high when stowed for transport or tracking.
This allows the Octoplus 30 to be moved along narrow paths and through standard-height doors.
Optimising productivity and safety
Its rubber tracks make it ideal for working across rough terrain or low loadbearing floors, both indoors and outdoors. Meanwhile, the tracks can be widened hydraulically to 1455mm to increase stability while working on uneven ground.
The spider lift also has an industry-leading maximum basket capacity of 280kg up to full working height, with a capacity of 150kg, for one person operation, at maximum outreach.
Its boom can be rotated through 4400, maximising flexibility and reducing the number of times the spider platform needs to be repositioned.
The basket rotates though 1600 using the platform’s proportional controls for precise placement, so the operative can always works from positions that optimise productivity and safety.
User-friendly controls, including single-button outrigger levelling and stowing and a single-button return-to-home function, reduces set-up and stow times and enhances safety still further.

Lithium batter power option
The Oil&Steel Octoplus 30 also has variable outrigger positioning, so the spider lift can work at height in extremely confined spaces, within an automatically reduced envelope.
A key advantage of the Octoplus 30 – again, shared across the range – is the platform’s build quality, with an all-steel boom and steel damage-resistant body panels.
All hoses and cables are also stowed inside the boom, eliminating snagging risks while working at height.
These build and design specifications are particularly appreciated by access hire specialists, as they help to control maintenance costs, and by tree surgeons, for whom falls of branches on to spider lifts are a recognised risk.
Hird Sales can supply the Octoplus 30 spider lift can be supplied with three power options:
- Low emissions petrol or diesel engines
- Bi-energy petrol or diesel engines with a 73.6v mains electric motor
- All-electric lithium battery, for zero emissions, low-noise and ultra-low carbon footprint operation
Carl Cooper said: “Our customers also have the advantage of the Hird Sales’ very competitive prices and finance deals, and the option of exceptional on-going maintenance and service support.
“The Octoplus 30 is an exceptional platform for building maintenance, events set-up, lighting and telecommunications installation and maintenance, and tree management.”
