What is a pallet truck?

A pallet truck is a versatile piece of material handling equipment that can be used for lightweight load movements all the way up to a 2500kg pallet load. It is a wheeled trolley with integral forks designed to be pushed into a standard pallet. The operator can then lift and lower the pallet and manoeuvre it to the desired location. 

Pallet trucks are ideal for warehousing, storerooms and workshop areas.

Be careful when loading a pallet truck 

Overloading a pallet truck can cause accidents in the workplace. It is important that the maximum lift capacity is not exceeded and the load is stable and safe before operation. 

Can pallet trucks be used on a slope?

The pallet truck operator should use discretion when operating up or down slopes. It is not advisable to use pallet trucks on large slopes (ramps). Pallet truck forks should be 10 and 15cm off the ground to avoid contact with the floor.

How should the pallet truck be stored?

When not in use, the pallet truck handles should be left up and the forks should lowered. This reduces the risk of trips. Pallet truck forks should be kept out of the way of any walkways.
